Resources on B. B. Warfield in light of his birthday

By Matthew Barrett

This past Saturday marked the birthday of B. B. Warfield (Nov.5, 1851 – Feb.16, 1921), the lion of Princeton. Many have called Warfield the greatest theologian since Jonathan Edwards. Today we would like to draw your attention to a short article by Fred Zaspel introducing Warfield, called “Remembering B. B. Warfield.” We also highly recommend Zaspel’s systematic summary of Warfield, The Theology of B. B. Warfield. If you are looking to read Warfield I would recommend buying the two volume set: Benjamin B. Warfield: Selected Shorter Writings. If that sounds too intimidating perhaps begin with Faith and Life. Another volume you may want to invest in is B. B. Warfield: Essays on His Life and Thought. You can also now find a host of Warfield’s writings online. Or consider reading some online articles about Warfield from the Riddleblog (by Kim Riddlebarger). Or, better yet (!), you can read Riddlebarger’s entire dissertation in a pdf (I am trying to contain my excitement if you cannot tell). And of course we would encourage you to take a look at Fred Zaspel’s most recent article, “B. B. Warfield on Inerrancy,” in the October issue of Credo Magazine (see below), “The Living Word.” All this to say, read, read, and re-read B. B. Warfield. Still today, Warfield remains one of the most important theologians in American history.
