Timothy Gatewood – Executive Editor and Associate Director
Credo exists to retrieve classical Christianity for the sake of creating and cultivating reformation in the church today. I (Matthew Barrett) founded Credo ten years ago to bridge the gulf between the academy and the church by making theology accessible to churchgoers, pastors, and students alike. And ten years later Credo continues to foster theological renewal today through Credo Magazine, the Credo Podcast, and the Center for Classical Theology.
To advance this mission Timothy Gatewood will serve as executive editor of Credo Magazine and associate director of the Center for Classical Theology.
During his time at MBTS, Gatewood was a researcher for the Spurgeon Library, a residential instructional designer for the department of online education, a member of the inaugural PhD Residency program, and a doctoral fellow. These various positions have allowed Gatewood to help with several academic projects including The Lost Sermons of C.H. Spurgeon and Matthew Barrett’s Simply Trinity. Gatewood’s work has been featured in the Midwestern Journal of Theology, Didaktikos Journal, and before the Evangelical Theological Society.
He and his wife, Beth, have two sons, John Howard and Thomas, and have lived in Kansas City since 2017. Prior to his move to KC, Timothy lived in Jackson, MS where he served as a college minister at Morrison Heights Baptist Church. He has also served as a youth minister, deacon, and pastoral resident in Mississippi and Missouri.
When not pursuing the retrieval of classical theology, Timothy and his family can be found in wooded log cabins, banjo in tow, as they enjoy camping and all things outdoors (they are from MS after all).
Dr. Gatewood is just what Credo needs—a piercing intellect combined with a fervor to advance theological awakening today. Both his theological acumen and his gift for making theology accessible will be a blessing to Credo Magazine as well as the Center for Classical Theology.
