New Credo Podcast: What Does the Ascension Have to do with the Kingdom of God?

The ascension of Christ is often given far too little attention. What is the ascension for? Is it a minor detail tacked onto the end of the story of Christ’s resurrection? And what is Christ doing in his ascended state now? Far from passively waiting for the moment of his return, Christ is interceding for believers now in his capacity as the perfect Prophet, Priest, and King.

In this Ascension Day episode of the Credo Podcast, Matthew Barrett talks with Patrick Schreiner about his recent book, The Ascension of Christ: Recovering a Neglected Doctrine. Matthew and Patrick reflect on the importance of the ascension in the gospel story and its ongoing relevance in the Christian life.

 

Matthew Barrett

Matthew Barrett is Research Professor of Theology at Trinity Anglican Seminary. He has been appointed the McDonald Agape visiting scholar at Dominican House of Studies and the Thomistic Institute. He is the founder of Credo. He is the author of award-winning books like Simply Trinity and On Classical Theology. Currently he is writing a Systematic Theology with Baker Academic. Patrick Schreiner

Patrick Schreiner is Associate Professor of New Testament and Biblical Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of a number of books, including The Body of Jesus: A Spatial Analysis of the Kingdom in Matthew (T&T Clark), The Kingdom of God and the Glory of the Cross (Crossway), Matthew, Disciple and Scribe: The First Gospel and Its Portrait of Jesus (Baker),  and The Ascension of Christ: Recovering a Neglected Doctrine (Lexham Press).
