Two Resources for Children

By Elizabeth Barrett –

I have two children’s resources from Lamplighter Press to highlight today. The first is a fantastic audio production called “Sir Malcolm and the Missing Prince.” Personally, I LOVE radio theater. I love everything about it. I love the idea of the whole family sitting around listening to a dramatic telling of a classic story. I feel like it is my connection to vintage America. Lamplighter Press does an excellent job with the quality of the production. The acting is great, the music is great, nothing about it is cheesy. Lamplighter’s mission is to “Make ready a people prepared for the Lord, by building Christ-like character one story at a time.” To that end, Sir Malcolm and the Missing Prince is a story with the foundational themes of hard work, sound judgement, kindness, and service. The story is of a spoiled prince. His father knows that his son will not be a fair and good king, and so he sends him off to develop strong character the hard way.

The second resource from Lamplighter is a children’s novel called “Teddy’s Button.” Teddy’s Button is the story of a young boy fighting against the flesh, seeking to serve the Lord. It is cleverly written around the theme of the Lord’s army. Teddy enlists in the Lord’s army and now must fight for his commander (Jesus). It is fantastic to see a children’s book about growing in the Lord that also contains sword fights, tree climbing, and other mischievous little boy antics. It is an exciting little book that will encourage young boys and girls to fight off sin and seek to honor the Lord. Honestly, since reading the book last month, I still think of it often as I seek to fight sin in my own life. Not only will your children learn from it, but you will undoubtedly be encouraged as well.

Lamplight has many more books and audios available. They are currently offering a really great Christmas package that is worth considering. I highly recommend you check them out and use their materials as you seek to encourage your children to grow in Godly character.

Elizabeth Barrett (B.A., Biola University) is married to Matthew and they have two daughters, Cassandra and Georgia. Elizabeth is a member of Clifton Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.
