Our Lord Jesus is Ever Giving
Recently, while preaching Romans 12:1-2, I was reminded of the great mercies of God that our ours in Christ. To fully understand God’s mercies (though they are truly incomprehensible) one must come to grips with the depth of their sin. They must have an Isaiah 6 moment, recognizing how wretched they truly are in the sight of God. Then we are able to come to God as we ought, as beggars in need of His grace. And God graciously gives to us every spiritual blessing, and all things that pertain to life and godliness. Spurgeon reminds us of these realities in the following two quotes. May we be a people who recognize our sin and embrace Christ, the source of God’s grace and mercy.
If you are to go to Christ, do not put on your good doings and feelings, or you will get nothing; go in your sins, they are your livery. Your ruin is your argument for mercy; your poverty is your plea for heavenly alms; and your need is the motive for heavenly goodness. Go as you are, and let your miseries plead for you.
Our Lord Jesus is ever giving, and does not for a solitary instant withdraw his hand. As long as there is a vessel of grace not yet full to the brim, the oil shall not be stayed. He is a sun ever-shining; he is manna always falling round the camp; he is a rock in the desert, ever sending out streams of life from his smitten side; the rain of his grace is always dropping; the river of his bounty is ever-flowing, and the well-spring of his love is constantly overflowing.
