10 Weeks on the Trinity: More Than A Riddle
Matthew Barrett believes that we have conflated who the triune God is in and of himself with how he acts in salvation history. In his fourth lecture in the new Trinity Course through the FTC institute, Barrett distinguishes between processions and missions, between imminent and economic Trinity. While the temporal missions of the Trinity manifested in the gospel reveal truth about the eternal processions of the Trinity, we must be careful not to merge or confuse the two. We must distinguish between the imminent – who our triune God is apart from the created order – and the economic – how this triune God acts toward his created order. In so doing, we will break the modern habit to “historicize” the eternal, infinite Trinity. The economic reveals but does not constitute the imminent Trinity.
Join Dr. Barrett to learn key trinitarian concepts, which can safeguard us from future Trinity drift and help us find our way home to a biblical and orthodox understanding of the Trinity.
