Can God still be loving and personal if he is not susceptible to emotional change? How are we to think about God’s impassibility in light of his immutability? How can God be impassible if Christ has suffered on the cross? In this episode, Dr. Matthew Barrett is joined by Dr. Thomas Weinandy to discuss the important theological and pastoral question of whether or not God suffers.

Thomas Weinandy earned his doctorate in Historical Theology from King’s College, University of London, England in 1975. Since then, he has taught theology at number of Colleges and Universities. From 1991 to 2004 he was a tutor and lecturer in History and Doctrine at the University of Oxford. He most recently taught at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington DC and the Gregorianum in Rome. Presently he is pursuing academic writing and speaking at conferences. He has written or edited seventeen books, including Does God Suffer? and Does God change? He has also published numerous articles in edited theological volumes and has written for several theological journals and pastoral periodicals.
