How sovereign is God’s grace? Is grace a gift we cooperate with or an unconditional act that we undeservedly receive? What’s the difference between grace that is sufficient versus effectual for our salvation? Is regeneration monergistic or synergistic? In the order of salvation, does regeneration precede faith?

In this new episode of the Credo podcast, Matthew Barrett is joined by Kevin DeYoung to discuss the Synod of Dort and what it teaches us about the irresistible nature of God’s grace in conversion.

Kevin L. DeYoung (PhD, University of Leicester) is Senior Pastor at Christ Covenant Church and Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology at RTS Charlotte. Prior to moving to Charlotte in 2017, he was the senior pastor at University Reformed Church, East Lansing, Michigan and was a Chancellor’s Professor at RTS. He is the author of several books including Grace Defined and Defended: What a 400-Year-Old Confession Teaches Us about Sin, Salvation, and the Sovereignty of God; The Good News We Almost Forgot: Rediscovering the Gospel in a 16th Century Catechism; Acts: A Visual Guide, The Ten Commandments. His volume Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book About a (Really) Big Problem, was named the 2014 Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Book of the Year. In addition, Christianity Today has awarded Book of the Year honors to three of his books in 2009, 2010, and 2013. World Magazine named What Does the Bible Really Teach About Homosexuality? one of its 2015 Books of the Year.

Matthew Barrett

Matthew Barrett is the editor-in-chief of Credo Magazine, director of the Center for Classical Theology, and host of the Credo podcast. He is professor of Christian theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the author of several books, including Simply Trinity, which won the Christianity Today Book of the Year Award in Theology/Ethics. His new book is called The Reformation as Renewal: Retrieving the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. He is currently writing a Systematic Theology with Baker Academic.
