Episode #177

On the Priesthood

Show Notes

In this episode of the Credo Podcast, Dr. Graham Tomlin, President of St Mellitus College, joins Matthew Barrett for an in-depth discussion on the priesthood. Christ is our great High Priest, and the task of every individual priest is to remind the church over and over again of Jesus so that the church can be the kind of community that reminds the world of Jesus, the true High Priest, who saves us all. You are a priest for the sake of the church, for the sake of the world. Tomlin also shares how he grew up Baptist but left to become Anglican, and why that conversion has given him a greater appreciation of Anglicanism in the end, from the sacraments to episcopacy. He shares why Anglicanism is an attempt to be that church which properly holds together both reformational and catholic impulses.

During their conversation, they discuss other important aspects of the priesthood, including theological education, the busyness of ministry, and the importance of priests knowing their besetting sins.
